Max Red Barlett
I’m called Max Red Barlett but people often call me Red William. It’s not exactly a nickname but a tribute to my older sister who contributed to my birth and with whom I have a lot in common. I’m actually her American sister as I was born in a large city in the USA, Washington, in 1938. Sometimes I’d like to be discrete and go unnoticed like William, but I’m very flashy and people can’t help notice me among the others. My shape is medium-sized, roundish and balanced, but it is the colour of my dress that is really eye-catching. Red, actually bright red, with a touch of rusty yellow. When I’m ripe, at the beginning of August, I literally shine through the green leaves on the trees and my sweet flesh, which melts in the mouth, reaches its highest sugar content. From then on I can be harvested and, like my big sister, I’m perfect for being made into juices and preserves. I hope I’ll be as famous as her one day.
