Williams
I’m called Williams and it’s not just by chance that my name sounds a bit English. I was born in England many years ago, between 1765 and 1770 and it was Mr Williams after whom I was named that took me all over the world. But don’t think of me as an old lady. I’ve travelled, discovered distant countryside and found my home in the nice Po Valley. Here, thanks to the care of the growers, I’ve become the most famous pear. I’m not very flashy and my roundish shape is discrete, just like my character as I don’t like excessiveness and prefer to go fairly unnoticed. My dress is a uniform light green colour, pleasantly stained but only occasionally with a red nuance that lights up in the sun. My fame doesn’t come from my looks but from inside, where I have a sweet heart beating. In fact, my flesh can be eaten fresh after the harvest, in August, or happily transformed into delicious juices and excellent fruit salads that can be enjoyed all year round. That’s why I’m so famous.
